An overview of "Travel Soccer" and our club
The White Clay Soccer Club is a travel soccer program that provides an opportunity for qualified players to compete at a higher level of competition with players of similar abilities from other clubs in the region. Identification of these players is through a annual tryout process, and participation is a one-year commitment.
Teams are formed by age groups and represent the White Clay Soccer Club in local leagues including the Delco Soccer League, the Philadelphia Area Soccer League (for girls), and the Mid-Atlantic Soccer League. League play takes place in the fall and spring, while some teams also choose to play in indoor leagues in the winter. White Clay teams are also encouraged to play in regional tournaments.
Teams in the under-9 and under-10 age groups play 8 v 8 on smaller fields, while older age groups play 11 v 11 on regulation-size fields. The White Clay Soccer Club's home field is at St. Anthony in the Hills, located near the intersection of routes 41 and 7 in Avondale. Practices are generally twice a week in the fall and the spring and are held at local township parks, including Nichol Park and Crossan Park.
Coaches in the White Clay Soccer Club are required to hold a coaching license through the U.S. Soccer Federation, and have experience in not only the sport of soccer but also in coaching and relating to children.
Approximate annual costs are $250-$300, depending on the number of tournaments a team may play. This cost includes:
- uniform (home and away jersey, shorts, socks)
- league and referee fees
- tournament entrance fees
- use of township fields for practice
- use of St. Anthony in the Hills field for games
- registration and insurance with EPYSA
- miscellaneous costs, including trading patches for tournaments
